Haven’t Watched Empire Season 5? Watch it Now

When it comes to keeping the audience glued to their screens and guessing what happens next, very few shows can rival Empire. Right from when the corporate and family drama premiered back in 2015, its ratings have been relatively consistent though not without bumps along the road, and I mean what show doesn’t?

Season 5 of the show promises to be no different. We all saw the traumatizing end of season 4 when the Lyons lost Empire. Will they reclaim it back in season 5? Let’s find out together.

Rebuilding the Lyon Dynasty

I have to admit, and I never thought Luciuos would ever lose Empire. He has come close several times, but in each case, he came out the other end of the tunnel smiling while holding the keys to the empire. However, season 4 had a different plot. In season 5, the Lyons start rebuilding after they lost Empire to Eddie and Jeff.

However, in their quest, they face all the hurdles that working towards the top comes with. With the scarce resources available at their disposal, they try to go against their former vast resources that now is under Empire. Through Lyon Family Management, they realize signing artists, paying the bills and staying afloat without Empire is a Herculean task.

Sorry for the spoiler but in their conniving ways, they eventually retake Empire and employ their experience and wit to keep their dynasty running. They try cleaning up Jeff’s mess and while under their management, Empire attracts an investigation by the FBI. Cookie’s peculiar relationship with Damon Cross played by Wood Harris can have severe consequences for her relationship with Lucious.

Hakeem Finally Mans Up

For the many seasons now, Hakeem has been portrayed as that character living a larger than life lifestyle with care for only a handful of people. This lifestyle has been what has earned him the spotlight to a great extent, but it has also held him back in other fronts such as relationships.

After the shooting, Hakeem turns to the studio. He believes that the rage he feels can help him record an awesome song. However, Hakeem eventually finds courage in this season and goes to fight for what is important, his relationship with Tiana. In his effort to convince her, he changes his ways and though Tiana initially gas reservations, they work out an understanding of how to progress.

Does Andre Have What it Takes?

Lucious has always appeared to have some reservations about Andre. Though he is the only one with the business mind to run Empire, Lucious has never been willing to hand him the key to the throne save for that one time. Partly for his reservation, we can say has been his lack of cojones. Does this change in season 5?

The season begins with Andre in prison after Thirsty stroke an acceptable deal for his transgression. In prison, Andre gets to run the show while developing an attachment to one ‘innocent’ inmate. While in prison, Andre pulls off a move that helps the Lyons by bringing Eddie down.

After he is out, Andre together with the boy’s mother set out to prove his innocence but what is Andre’s motivation for helping? Andre’s health comes to question as he is discovered to have cancer and struggles to cope with it as the season progresses. There is eventually another plot twist, no spoilers for this one, watch the show.

Could this be the one for Jamal?

Jamal’s love life has been a rollercoaster in the show. He occasionally seems like he has found the one, but somewhere along the way, the relationship comes to an end. However, could this time be different?

After living in London for a while, Jamal flies back together with his new boyfriend, Kai. Their relationship seems to have thrived away, but once again they undergo challenges that can potentially end their relationship. First, it is when Kai’s HIV status becomes known by the Lyons.

Secondly, Jamal starts having doubts as to whether Kai is totally in for relocating for his family and, finally, when Jamal announces their engagement on air. Despite their challenges, they stick together which brings the question ‘could this be the one for Jamal?’

Empire provides an entertaining and captivating storyline that revolves around Lyon’s. Season 5 is no different, and the rollercoaster plot is undoubtedly going to keep many people glued to their screens even as the season progresses.
